Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered will debut on March 31st, 2020, making it the second game in the Modern Warfare series to be remastered.

The German Playstation store has leaked the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered campaign, launching tomorrow on March 31st, 2020. The Infinity Ward created Modern Warfare franchise will be seeing its second remaster.

The highly anticipated remaster has been rumored for multiple years, with the first hints of its existence being leaked in 2018 through an Amazon listing. Then again in 2019, and finally, in 2020, a South Korean rating was released for the Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered. This pointed to its completion and eventual release, with many fans speculating that it’ll be either coming alongside Treyarch’s gritty Black Ops reboot slated for this year, or with Infinity Ward’s yet unannounced 2021 release. These theories were mainly due to 2016’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare being bundled with the Modern Warfare remaster. While that garnered a lot of criticism from players and longtime fans, it became a profitable choice for Activision.

CharlieINTEL, an unofficial Call of Duty news page, took to Twitter to reveal the leaked news alongside a teaser trailer for the campaign. The trailer provides definitive proof of its impending release. The Playstation store revealed that it will debut on the 31st of March. As expected of this remaster, unlike the original 2016 remaster, there will be no multiplayer modes or spec ops modes. Solely remastering the campaign proves to be a more manageable task, however, some fans have expressed their disappointment, saying that a lack of multiplayer fundamentally misses the most important aspect of a Call of Duty game.

While the Modern Warfare 2 campaign is considered by many to be one of the series’ highlights, a lack of multiplayer is still an issue. Some fans have stated that while they are excited to reexperience the campaign with a fully new aesthetic, they wish that Infinity Ward held it off until a multiplayer mode could be completed. The Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer was notorious for its popularity, as well as being a truly iterative title. While the original Modern Warfare provided the backbone and architecture for these evolutions, it wasn’t until Modern Warfare 2 that fans got a taste of everything the series had to offer.

It also seems as though the Modern Warfare 2 remaster is not running on the new engine first seen in 2019’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare. Due to its development being alongside 2019’s Call of Duty, many have thought it would be a recreation. However, much like 2016 remaster, the title seems to be running on the original, upgraded IW Engine. While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered may not be what every fan wants, it will surely provide longtime supporters of the series reason to revisit one of the most beloved campaigns in the franchise.
