One dedicated ATLA fan is single-handedly creating the ultimate Avatar: The Last Airbender video game fans have been wanting for years now.

An avid fan of the Avatar: The Last Airbender series has single-handedly taken on the task of creating the ATLA game fans have been wanting for years. There is quite an abundance of both full-length and mini-game styles Avatar: The Last Airbender games out there, but none have been able to elicit the same feeling of the show. However, one individual is using the Dreams PS4 software to bring this idea to life.

Elca Gaming, as he is known on YouTube, has been working on this project for over a year. At the time of writing this article, he has put in over 700 hours into the development process of his Avatar game. He started this project off knowing nothing about game development and programming. In his experience, many of the official ATLA games lacked strong mechanics to reflect the vast diversity of the Four Nations and he never truly felt he experienced the world of Avatar in the same way the show did. As such, with a still strong Avatar fanbase out there, Elca took it upon himself to start working on the perfect Avatar game.

Many of the Avatar games developed by THQ lacked much flair and diversity in their mechanics. While different characters each had their own unique combat styles, the variety was never enough. Each bending style often only had one to three different move options and were restricted to specific encounters. Elca’s game is different. He is intending to introduce unique martial arts and full bending capabilities for each of the bending forms: Water, Earth, Fire, and Air. This idea was originally exhibited through a small proof of concept demo he uploaded online, showing a basic model blasting some spheres away with air bending and riding on an air scooter. Since then, Elca has also worked on introducing a complete range of earth bending techniques.

What Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Fan-Made Game Looks Like

Based on what is currently uploaded, this Avatar game is due to feature a complete map of the four nations as well as allow players to control Aang as he flies around in a fully functioning glider. Many of the official Avatar: The Last Airbender games follow a very strict, linear pathway, and only show players a limited scope of the Avatar world. Elca hopes to have his game span across all three books of the series, following Aang in his journey to master the four elements and defeat the Fire Nation. The glider allows players to fly around notable locations like the Southern Water Tribe and Ba Sing Se in a pure, cinematic fashion never before seen in the franchise. Player will be able to explore the world of Avatar in all its glory. Check out the game in action below:

All of this is being produced by an individual who has no background in game development. Through Dreams on the PS4, Elca has been able to use the program’s modular based game creation systems to implement quite complex and diverse levels of logic and mechanics. All the currently modeled characters (Aang, Toph, Appa, and Momo) feature their own unique sets of animations, behaviors, mechanics, and gameplay styles. Elca has even recently completed a complete 1:1 sculpt of the Avatar world map, allowing players to ride on Appa across all the nations. An Avatar game of this scale has never been seen before.

At this time, Elca isn’t sure about when he plans to consider the game completely finished and how distribution will occur, given copyright concerns. However, with quite a large following on YouTube, Patreon, and Twitch, Elca has the backing to continue working on his game for some time. Even some celebrities, including the voices of Toph and Azula, have expressed interest in being part of the finished product. Elca is clearly passionate about the work he makes and is committed to making an Avatar: The Last Airbender game as noteworthy as the show that inspired it.
