Google has launched a slew of products already under its smart home brand, Google Nest ranging from smart speakers, smart displays, thermostats, et al. All the devices are packed with breakthrough technology, and Google is bringing more such advanced tech to its Google Nest Hub Smart displays, that was launched earlier this year. Google Nest Hub Smart Displays will now be able to sense people as they move closer to the device and will show relevant information based on how close you are, reports Android Police.

This new tech has been specifically released for its smart displays including the Nest Hub or the Nest Hub Max Smart Display (not yet launched in India). The new tech is ultrasonic sensing, that’s already available in Google’s new Nest Mini or Nest WiFi. With ultrasonic sensing, once you get close to Smart Display, it will display information that’s relevant to you including timers, your commuting details, weather forecasts, reminders, et al.

It will also expose all the touch controls for you to interact with. Moreover, once you a little away from the device, its UI will adjust itself and show bigger fonts so that it’s easier for you to read from a distance while touch controls would be hidden away from the screen.

What’s interesting is that this ultrasonic sensing feature allows the two Google Nest smart displays to react to people nearby without any camera. In fact, Nest Hub launched in India does not even feature a front camera. This was an intentional decision by Google since they didn’t want people to think that the company was spying on them. However, you can turn off this ultrasonic sensing feature temporarily by muting your smart display with a switch on the back. If you the feature to be permanently turned off, all you have to do is open the Google Home app, select the settings of the device, and turn off the toggle for Ultrasound sensing.
