MS Dhoni, on Monday, received a rousing reception at the M A Chidambaram Stadium during his first training session with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of his much-anticipated return to action in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Much to the delight of his fans, he smashed two brilliant sixes which made fans go frenzy in the stands.

Dhoni kickstarted the fireworks with the willow as he entertained the CSK fans by showcasing some breathtaking drives and vintage strokes.

Hailed as the best finisher in white-ball cricket, Dhoni towered a couple of massive sixes in the net practice to amuse the fans of the Yellow Brigade at the Chidambaram Stadium.

Dhoni returned to training amid never-ending speculation on his career, which has been on hold since last year’s ODI World Cup.

For the few hundred fans present in attendance at the stadium, it was indeed an exhibition as Dhoni gave a glimpse of what the CSK supporters can expect from Thala in the 13th edition of the IPL.

Veteran Indian cricketers Ambati Rayudu, Murali Vijay, Piyush Chawla, Karn Sharma along with local star R Sai Kishore and N Jagadeesan attended CSK’s first training session at the Chepauk.

Former India captain Dhoni is expected to practice for a couple of weeks with the likes of Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu among others. He would then take a break before returning, according to a Press Trust of India report.

Raina and Rayudu have been training for the past three weeks.

This year’s IPL begins with CSK taking on defending champion Mumbai Indians in Mumbai on March 29.

The three-time IPL champion had picked up veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood, England all-rounder Sam Curran and left-arm spinner R. Sai Kishore during the players’ auction held in December last year.
