As Black Lives Matter protests continue in the United States, Humble Bundle announces a $1 million fund to support games made by Black developers.

With the United States continuing to host nationwide protests, Humble Bundle announced on Twitter that they were establishing a fund for games made by Black game developers. With protests in the United States now going on for several days, many businesses have taken to social media to show their solidarity with the protesters and their cause.

Recently in the U.S. there have been a string of protests and riots in response to the deaths of Black American’s at the hands of police officers, namely the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.  Since then, various companies within the video game industry such as Sony, have made posts showing their support, and a few have even gone a step further by donating to various organizations and funds dedicated to do doing what they can to help.

One such company is Humble Bundle, which took to Twitter to express support for the Black Lives Matter movement. The company has continued its history of having a generous streak by extending a helping hand to those who need it at a moment that matters even more than Humble Bundle’s usual gestures. The company tweeted out that it was, “announcing a $1 million fund dedicated to helping publish games by Black developers.”

At the time, Humble Bundle did not explicitly the details of this fund, such as how it would be dispersed, or what the specific qualifications would be. The company only stated that it will have more updates soon but again, did not specify when that might be. Back in 2017, Humble Bundle was acquired by IGN, giving it access to IGN‘s wide pool of resources, both monetary and otherwise. With IGN‘s massive fanbase and revenue, the effects on Humble Bundle’s new fund could be greater than expected.

As the Black Lives Matter protests continue, so does the struggle for all those involved. Businesses, both big and small, have been damaged across the country, and some are doing what they can to help (though, some others may simply just be appearing to do so). Gestures like the one Humble Bundle has committed itself to supporting could really be helpful to a struggling developer in the world right now. Although developers are waiting on further details, it’s yet another example of how the gaming community has come together to support something bigger than itself at a time that really matters.
